In 1056 AD Robert Guiscard built the Castle of Altomonte. This first settlement was, over the years, expanded and modified according to the needs of the various principles that lived there and succeeded to the government of the County of Altomonte: the Sangineto, the Ruffo, Sanseverino.

The Castle has been an important place of culture since ancient times: inside a theater was built, of which today you can admire the splendid frescoes. At the end of 1800 the castle was sold by the Sanseverino family to the grandfather of the current owner, Francesco Piragine, a rich merchant. In 1995, the husband of Mrs. Piragine, Mr. Paulo Bruno, started the extensive restoration of the castle and in 1998, thus it was inaugurated as a 5-star hotel, restaurant and event center.
